Dr. Tekeda Alemu and TPLF

by Girma Hadas
Former Ethiopian diplomat
Ethiopian UN Ambassador Tekeda AlemuI am obliged to write this short note after I heard the new Ethiopian UN Ambassador Tekeda Alemu’s, my former big boss, interview on the EPRDF pal-talk gezategaru a week earlier. The points he forwarded in the interview are provocative and therefore demand a reply and correction. He cannot escape using the usual EPRDF deceiving tactic of making up a story to disguise itself as being somebody that it really is not. From my personal knowledge of the person
The ambassador mentioned that the reason he returned in 1974 to Ethiopia after he completed school in the USA was because he believed the Derg was progressive at the time and Ethiopia was at war with Somalia.
Well, I do not contest his initial argument. However, that does not explain why he remained cozy with the Derg people for the next 17 years with out any opposition or resistance to their untold human rights violations and horrific killings of innocent Ethiopians. While Ethiopians were slaughtered on the streets and its smartest and brightest were imprisoned and tortured, the so-called Dr. was serving the Derg regime full-heartedly and defending its bad deeds in the diplomatic sphere. On the interview he gave, he also mentioned that he was in the OAU meeting in West Africa when Woyane took power, and he said he came and joined them after Addis fall in their hands. Therefore, as he did during the oppressive Derg period he started serving the ethnic-psycho TPLF hegemonic rule in Ethiopia since the very day they came to power. Until the day he was sent to New York as Ambassador he has firmly stood in the side of those rulers who blocked the door that takes Ethiopia from autocracy to democracy and from poverty to development.

EPRDF’s Ethiopia: a Symbol of Slavery in the Midst of “Prosperity”

Over the years I have met with a range of people from different parts of the world who could not stop talking about

Ethiopia being the cradle of human kind and the land of cultural richness. I have also met individuals including academicians and policy makers with their own beliefs and biases that Ethiopians as coming from the land of extreme poverty, their exodus to the Middle East and beyond was the only way to survival and their (our) being was dependent on the charity of other countries including the Arab world. I was even told that Ethiopians who fled their country out of their economic desperation deserved all the treatment they receive in their new destinations as they need to confirm to the value system of their new community.
The conversation I have had about the treatment of Ethiopians in the Arab world, although always end up with me being offended about what was said about my country and about my people, it always brings to my mind the assertion of the EPRDF that our economy has been hailed for its double digit growth making the country the top three African economies.

“Release our venerated leaders now, Allah Waa Akbar!”

Ethiopian Muslims rocked Addis Ababa

*40 million Orthodox Christians must join the revolution

“We are Kamil Shemsu, We are Yasin Nuru, and we are Ahmed Mustafa… Allah Waa Akbar!”
Ethiopian Muslims rocked Addis Ababa“Let our voices be heard…”
As time runs out to correct the wrongs of the dead tyrant Meles Zenawi, Ethiopia’s crumbling minority junta is fast losing credibility and legitimacy.
Today’s(8 February 2013) ground breaking Muslim protest and the voices they reverberated throughout the vast nation are the authentic voices of all Ethiopians, according to Jemmal Yassin, a 21 year old Unity college student.
“As you see this is not savage rioting to destroy property and innocent lives. We are not here to destabilize our country’s political life and social balance by blindly demanding the implementation of the Sharia law in a secular nation. All this is the junta’s shoddy propaganda war against Muslims to scare off 40 million orthodox Christians from joining us.” The articulate young devout told reporters at Anwar Mosque in central Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia: Where Do We Go (or not go) From Here?

by Alemayehu G. Mariam

On the road to democracy and unity?
Ethiopia: Where Do We Go (or not go) From Here?
For some time now, I have been heralding Ethiopia’s irreversible march from dictatorship to democracy. In April 2011, I wrote a commentary entitled, “The Bridge on the Road(map) to Democracy”. I suggested,
We can conceive of the transition from dictatorship to democracy as a metaphorical journey on the road to progress, freedom and human enlightenment (democracy) or a regression to tyranny, subjugation and bondage (dictatorship). Societies and nations move along this road in either direction. Dictatorships can be transformed into democracies and vice versa. But the transition takes place on a bridge that connects the road from dictatorship to democracy. It is on this bridge that the destinies of nations and societies, great and small, are made and unmade. If the transition on the bridge is orderly, purposeful and skillfully managed, then democracy could become a reality. If it is chaotic, contentious and combative, there will be no crossing the bridge, only pedaling backwards to dictatorship. My concern is what could happen on the bridge linking dictatorship to democracy in Ethiopia when that time comes to pass.
