Legally Corrupt State – A Speech By Wondimu Mekonnen at UK house of commons

Legally Corrupt State – A Speech By Wondimu Mekonnen at UK house of commons
The simplest definition of state corruption is the self-enrichment of government officials through the use of the power bestowed on them and state mechanism. In Ethiopia, the TPLF is a mafia type gang that is running its own Mafiosi economic empire, not the country as a legitimate caring government. Read the story in PDF. LEGALLY CORRUPT STATE

Eskinder Nega’s Letter on The New York Times

Journalism is Not Terrorism free Eskinder NegaJuly 24, 2013

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — I AM jailed, with around 200 other inmates, in a wide hall that looks like a warehouse. For all of us, there are only three toilets. Most of the inmates sleep on the floor, which has never been swept. About 1,000 prisoners share the small open space here at Kaliti Prison. One can guess our fate if a communicable disease breaks out.

I was arrested in September 2011 and detained for nine months before I was found guilty in June 2012 under Ethiopia’s overly broad Anti-Terrorism Proclamation, which ostensibly covers the “planning, preparation, conspiracy, incitement and attempt” of terrorist acts. In reality, the law has been used as a pretext to detain journalists who criticize the government. Last July, I was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Dear President Kerwin,
Recently there were strings of articles hostile to Ethiopia most emanating from Aljazeera. Many Ethiopians are concerned about it in light of remarks by Egyptian politicians to destabilize Ethiopia by planting false propaganda and sabotage.
One of the articles originated from two scholars from A

World Bank: Ducking Human Rights Issues Billions for Development, but Lack of Safeguards Undermines Benefits Human Rights Watch

The World Bank has closed its eyes to risks to the human rights of the very people it seeks to benefit, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The bank lacks adequate checks to guard against funding human rights abuse. The bank’s board will meet as part of its ongoing policy review, which provides an opportunity to remedy this policy gap, in Washington on July 23, 2013.

Canada: Edmonton's Ethiopian community struggled to stop Woyanne fund raising meeting

EDMONTON, CANADA - Police physically forced back more than 100 members of Edmonton's Ethiopian community Saturday during a heated protest against the Ethiopian government in the city's west end.

As many as a dozen officers blocked protesters at the entrance to the Belmead Community Centre where representatives from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia were meeting. Police in riot gear were also at the demonstration.

Edmonton Police Service spokeswoman Patrycia Thenu said it began when police from west division were called to the protest at 3 p.m. but more officers were called from all divisions at 3:30 as the protest grew in size.

"Things quickly escalated here as protesters tried to get inside the meeting," said Thenu.

Thenu said the EPS Public Safety Unit was placed on standby at the protest, where Edmontonians from Ethiopia chanted slogans, waved flags and held signs reading "Justice for Ethiopia" and "Muslims aren't terrorists."

How many Non-Muslims Throats has Jawar Siraj Mohammed Slit?

Regarding Jawar Mohammed's Confession on Slitting ThroatsJuly 22, 2013

by LJD
I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers.
Khalil Gibran, Lebanese literary hero.
Note: Viewer discretion is advised: The below hyperlinks contain grisly images of inhumanely murdered women and children with knife slashes to their throats. Whether this hideous string of murder cases has been solved by the tyrant Ethiopian regime – the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), it appeared to me that additional new evidence that could associate Jawar Siraj Mohammed to the murder cases might come to light.

Deconstructing Construction Corruption in Ethiopia

Deconstructing Construction Corruption in EthiopiaJuly 21, 2013

In my fifth commentary on corruption in Ethiopia this year, I focus on the construction sector. The other commentaries are available at my blogsite.
The cancer of corruption in the construction sector the World Bank (WB) documented in its “Diagnosing Corruption in Ethiopia” is just as malignant and metastatic as in the land, education and telecommunications sectors. According to the WB report:
In the construction sector, Ethiopia exhibits most of the classic warning signs of corruption risk, including instances of poor-quality construction, inflated unit output costs, and delays in implementation. In turn, these factors appear in some cases to be driven by unequal or unclear contractual relationships, poor enforcement of professional standards, high multipliers between public sector and private sector salaries, wide-ranging discretionary powers exercised by government, a lack of transparency, and a widespread perception of hidden barriers to market entry.
