Ethiopian Airlines Replaces Vice-President

Ethiopian Airlines has appointed Captain Yohannes Hailemariam as Vice-President Flight Operations effective 3 March 2014.

Captain Yohannes is replacing Captain Desta Zeru (Vice President and head of Flight Operations), who left the position of Vice-President for a reasons which is not clear, but speculations are in high gear that it is related to the recent events caused by co-pilot Hailemedhin Abera.

Sources inside the airline are also revealing many pilots have been grounded and their licenses were suspended.

Michael Melaku, a former Safety Security Department officer of the Ethiopian Airlines had exposed the internal maladministration, corruption and nepotism within the Ethiopian Airlines.

Michael said the Airlines is now dominated by people who hail from the ethnic group of the Tigrean Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF). He said all of the 18 anti-hijackers (T-4) of the Airlines hail from the same ethnic group – Tigre. He said especially after Girma Wake, the ex CEO of the Airlines left and the current CEO Tewolde Gebremariam, who also hails from the TPLF, took power the Airlines became a “hell”.

He said the main problem within the ET is racism and nepotism. There is a deep rooted maladministration. There is no single trade union as it has been divided into three.
