TPLF military tigthens grip on Ethiopian economy

Meet MetEC – the misleadingly named Ethiopian Metal and Engineering Corporation that has come to dominate the Ethiopian economy in less than one year.

Headed by Brigadier General Kinfu Dagnew, MetEC now controls 15 industries and 100 factories. It has its fingers in everything from the so-called Grand Renaissance Dam to arms factories, to a spanking new fertilizer factory, to ten sugar factories, one of which presumably requires the tearing down of Waldiba Monastery.

MetEC is the latest creative move by TPLF to tighten its grip and to control every aspect of the life of Ethiopians.  It entrenches a patronage system that gives a larger stake to the military while guaranteeing the survival of the regime. 

Disguised as economic development, the move is also further evidence of unabashed wealth transfer from a much-suffering population held hostage to an unrepresentative ethnic minority that has created a police state with the blessing of foreign powers.  Many of the foreign backers also benefit from various illicit deals with the secretive regime.

Excitement and jubilation as Ethiopian refugees received delivery of the original national flag.

Shock, anxiety and bewilderment griped TPLF officials at the Ethiopian embassy in Pretoria as refugees totally rejected the satanic flag of the minority junta; a symbol of the brutal internal colonization of Ethiopia.

On Thursday morning the original Ethiopian flag arrived in Johannesburg directly from China, ahead of the black lions opening match against the copper bullets of Zambia in Nelspruit, much to the delight of thousands of patriotic fans. It was immediately distributed, all thanks to the sterling work of the Ethiopian community association in South Africa and the anti TPLF organization known as Bête-Ethiopia.

It will be proudly displayed on Monday at Mbonbela stadium.

“We have a big surprise for the enemy of our flag, our history and our tradition- the ruling junta. We are going to shame the dead tyrant Meles Zenawi who once called our flag ‘a piece of garment.’ In bringing this flag here, great gallantry has been displayed by great individuals here in South Africa. Long live the Ethiopian community association! Long live Bête- Ethiopia!” an elated refugee told the Horn Times.

ናሽናል ጂኦግራፊ የተሰኘው ታዋቂ የሚዲያ ተቋም ዕውቅ ተመራማሪና ጋዜጠኛ የሆነው ሚስተር ፖል ሳሎፔክ ‹‹አውት ኦፍ ኤደን ወክ›› የተባለ ሰባት ዓመታት የሚፈጅ በርካታ የአፍሪካ፣

የመካከለኛው ምሥራቅ፣ የእስያ፣ የሰሜን አሜሪካና የደቡብ አሜሪካ አገሮችን የሚያካልል የእግር ጉዞ ባለፈው ዓርብ በአፋር ክልል ሄርቶ ቡሪ ከተባለ የሆሞ ሳፒያን መገኛ ቦታ ጀመረ፡፡

ከዚህ ቀደም በሠራቸው ምርጥ የምርመራ ዘገባዎች ሁለት ጊዜ የፑሊትዘር ሽልማት ተሸላሚ የሆነው ፖል ሳሎፔክ ጉዞውን በጀመረበት ሄርቶ ቡሪ ለሪፖርተር በሰጠው መግለጫ የአፋር ክልል ጥንታዊ የሰው ልጅ መገኛ መሆኑን ጠቅሶ፣ ከ150,000 ዓመት በፊት ዘመናዊ የሰው ዘር (Modern Homo Sapien) ከአፋር ክልል በመነሳት ወደተለያዩ አኅጉራት የተሰደደ በመሆኑ፣ እርሱም ይህን የስደት ጉዞ መስመር ተከትሎ ጉዞውን ለማድረግ መወሰኑን ተናግሯል፡፡ የአፋር ክልል በርካታ የጥንታዊ ሰው ቅሪተ አካላትና መገልገያ መሣሪያዎች በየጊዜው የሚገኝበት ቦታ እንደሆነ የገለጸው ፖል፣ ‹‹አውት ኦፍ ኤደን ወክ›› የተሰኘው የሰባት ዓመታት የእግር ጉዞ 24,000 ማይልስ እንደሚሸፍን ተናግሯል፡፡

ዘመናዊ የሰው ልጅ ስደት ከጀመረበት ሄርቶ ቡሪ ጉዞውን በመጀመሩ የተሰማውን ደስታ የገለጸው ፖል፣ የመጀመሪያ ጉዞውን የሚያደርገው ከአፋር ክልል ወደ ጂቡቲ እንደሆነና ጂቡቲ ለመድረስ 27 ቀት እንደሚፈጅበት ተናግሯል፡፡ በጂቡቲ ለአንድ ወር ዕረፍትና ዝግጅት ካደረገ በኋላ ቀይ ባህርን በጀልባ በማቋረጥ ሳዑዲ ዓረቢያ ይገባል፡፡ ከዚያም የእግር ጉዞውን በመቀጠል የመካከለኛው ምሥራቅ አገሮችን በማቋረጥ ከአንድ ዓመት በኋላ እስራኤል ይደርሳል፡፡ በመቀጠልም የጉዞ አቅጣጫውን ወደ እስያ በማድረግ ፓኪስታን፣ ቻይናና ህንድን አካሎ ወደ ሩሲያ በመዝለቅ ሳይቤሪያን አቋርጦ በአሜሪካ አላስካ በኩል በማቅናት የደቡብ አሜሪካ አገሮችን፣ አቆራርጦ ከሰባት ዓመታት በኋላ የጉዞ ማብቂያ ወደሆነው ደቡብ አሜሪካ ጫፍ ይደርሳል፡፡

ናሽናል ጂኦግራፊ የፖል ሳሎፔክን የጉዞ ገጠመኝ የሚተርክበት ‹‹Out of Eden Walk›› የሚል ድረ ገጽ የከፈተ ሲሆን፣ ዘገባው በናሽናል ጂኦግራፊ ቴሌቪዥን ቻናል በየጊዜው ይተላለፋል፤ በናሽናል ጂኦግራፊ መጽሔትም ይታተማል፡፡ ፖል የሰባት ዓመታቱን የእግር ጉዞ ካጠናቀቀ በኋላ ይህን ረጅም ጉዞ የሚተርክ መጽሐፍ እንደሚያሳትም ለማወቅ ተችሏል፡፡

‹‹በጎሳ ላይ የተመሰረተ ግጭት በአዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሪዎች መሃል በመጸዳጃ ቤቶች፤ በቤተመጻህፍትና በመኝታ ቤት  ግድግዳ ላይ፤የተጻፉ አስፀያፊ ክብረነክ ጸሁፎች ከስድስት በላይ የሆኑ ተማሪዎችን ለከፍተኛ የመቁሰል አደጋ ተጠቂ ዳርጓቸዋል:: በርካታዎችንም ለእስር አብቅቷል፡፡ ለላለፉት አሰርት ዓመታት፤በዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሪዎች መሃል ግጭቶችን ሲያስነሱ ከርመዋል፡፡ ይህም መሰረታዊ ችግሩና መንስኤው አስተዳደራዊ ድክመት ነው፡፡ ከዚሁ ጋር በተመሳሳይ ባለፈው በእለተ ዕረቡ ጃንዋሪ 2 2013 የተቀሰቀሰው ግጭትም በተለይ በሁለት ጎሳዎች በኦሮሞና በትግራይ ተማሪዎች መሃል የተከሰተ ነበር፡፡ ምስክሮች እንደሚሉት፤ግጭቱ የተቀሰቀሰው የትግራይ ተወላጅ የሆነው ተማሪ፤ በመጸዳጃ ቤት፤ በቤተመጻህፍትና በተማሪዎች መኝታ ቤቶች  ግድግዳዎች ላይ የጎሳን ክብር የሚነካ ጽሁፍ በመጻፉ ነበር፡፡››

እንደ የአዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ባለስልጣን አባባል ‹‹ግጭቱ የተቀሰቀሰው ያንን የጎሣ ክብር የሚነካ ክብረነክ ጽሁፍ በተመለከቱት ተማሪዎች  መሆኑን ነው::›› በዚህም የተነሳ 20 ተማሪዎች መቁሰላችውንና 3ቱ የጠናባቸው ወደ ሆስፒታ፤ል መወሰዳቸውን በተጨማሪ ሁለቱ የቀዶ ጥገና እንደተደረገላቸው ታውቋል፡፡ ሌሎች 20ዎችም በፖሊስ ባልለየለት ውንጀላ ለእስር ተዳርገዋል፡፡

ስለኢትዮጵያ ‹‹የብልሆች መፍለቂያ ከነበረው ዩኒቨርሲቲ›› ይህን ሁኔታ ሳነበው ያደረብኝ ግብታዊ አስተያየት፤ ማመን እስኪያቅተኝ ነበር፡፡ ሳስበዉም ‹‹ይህ ፈጽሞ ሊታመን የሚችል ጉዳይ አይደልም፡፡ ይህ ከኢትዮጵያ አነሮች ትውልድ (ወጣቱ ትውልድ) በዚህ ፈሪነትና የማያስፈራራ አስከፊ ሁኔታ ውስጥ መግባት ተግባራቸው አይደለም፡፡ የኢትዮጵያ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሪዎች በዚህ ቆሻሻ እና እጣቢ አተላ የጎሳ ፖለቲካ ውስጥ ከመንደፋደፍ የተሸለና የበለጠ ተግባር ማከናውን ይችላሉ›› አልኩኝ :: ይህን የመሰለ የረከሰ የጥላቻ ምግባር፤የወዲፊቶቹ ኢትዮጵያዊያን ምሁራን፤የቀጣዩ ትውልድ መምህራን፤ ሳይንቲስቶች፤ እና የፈጠራ ሰዎች ምግባር እንዳልሆነ ነበር እራሴን ማሳመን የሞከርኩት፡፡

ነገሩን የበለጠ ሳጤነው አምአሮ የሚነካና የሚአስቀፍፍ ሆኖ አገኘሁት፡፡ እራሴንም ጠየቅሁ፡፡ ምናልባትስ ይህ የጎሳ ክብር የሚነካ ጽሁፍ በሌሎች የአ አ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሪዎች  የተፈጠረ ቢሆንስ? ይህን የመሰለው ዝቃጭ፤ወኔቢስ፤ባለጌ ተግባር ስለነዚህ ተማሪዎች ምን ይላል? ስለአዲስ አበባ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሪዎችስ? ስለአጠቃላዮቹ የኢትዮጵያ ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተማሪዎችስ? ስለ መላው የኢትዮጵያ ወጣቶችስ?

ሰፈር ያሸበረ ዶሮ በፍርድ ቤት ሞት ተወሰነበት

ኢሳት ዜና:-በአዲስ አበባ ከጽዮን ሆቴል ጀርባ በሚገኘው መደዴ ሰፈር ውስጥ ነዋሪውን   ያመሰ ዶሮ፤ በፍርድ ቤት ሞት ተፈረደበት።

ሸገር ራዲዮ ዶሮውን << አሸባሪ>> ብሎታል።

በጽዮን ሆቴል ጀርባ በሚገኘው መደዴ ሰፈር ወጪ ወራጁን፣አላፊ አግዳሚውን እየደበደበ ያስቸገረ ጉልበተኛ አለ የሚል ጥቆማ በደረሳቸው መሰረት ወደ ስፍራው ማቅናቸውን ነው የሸገር ጋዜጠኞች የሚናገሩት።

ይህን ጉልበተኛ የደፈረችውም፤ ሰናይት የምትባል የሰፈሩ ሴት ብቻ መሆኗን የአካባቢው ነዋሪዎቹ ተናግረዋል።

ሰናይት ደፈረችው የተባለውም፤ ያሰደረሰባትን ከፍተኛ ደብድባ ተከትሎ መብቷን ለማስከበር ለፖሊስ ክስ መስርታበት በፍርድ ቤት ስላስፈረደችበት ነው።

እንደዘገባው ከሆነ ከሰፈሩ ነዋሪዎች በተጨማሪ ቆራሌ የሚሉ አነስተኛ ነጋዴዎችን የኔ ብጤዎች በተደጋጋሚ በጉልበተኛው ዶሮ ከፍ ያለ ጥቃት ተፈፅሞባቸዋል።

የ አካባቢው ድመቶችና ውሾች ሳይቀሩ በጉልበተኛው ዶሮ የሚደርስባቸውን ንክሻና ጥቃት አሜን ብለው ከተቀበሉም ሰንብተዋል።

ጉዳዩን ለማጣራት ወደ ስፍራው የተንቀሳቀሱት የሸገር ዘጋቢዎች በቦታው ሲደርሱ በነሱም ላይ ጥቃት እንዳይደርስባቸው በመስጋት ሁኔታውን በርቀት መከታተልን እንደመረጡ ተናግረዋል።

እግሮቹ ወፋፍራምና ዓይኖቹ ድፍርስ የሆኑት ይህ ጉልበተኛ፤ ከድብድብ ብዛት ግንባሩ እና ጀርባው ላይ መቁሰሉን የጠቀሱት ዘጋቢዎቹ፤ ካሉበት ስፍራ ሆነው ሰዎች በርቀት ሲያሷያቸው- እሱም  ከጉራንጉር ውስጥ ሆኖ እንዳያቸው ጠቁመዋል።

በነሱም ጥቃት እንዳይፈጽምባቸው  ዶሮውን በ አንድ ዓይናቸው የጎሪጥ እየተከታተሉ  በሰሩት ቃለ ምልልስ፤በርካታ የአካባባው ወላጆችና ወጣቶች ሳይቀሩ በዚህ ጉልበተኛ ዶሮ መነከሳቸውን በምሬት ለጋዜጠኞቹ ተናግረዋል።

ከሰፈሩ ሰው አልፎ መንገደኞችን፤ቆራሌዎችንና የኔብጤዎችን ድንገት  ዘልሎ ትከሻቸው ላይ ድረስ እየወጣ በተደጋጋሚ ከፍ ያለ ጥቃት እንደፈጸመባቸው የተናገሩት አንዲት እናት፤ በዚህም ሳቢያ የኔብጤዎች ወደ መንደሩ መምጣታቸውን ጨርሶ እንዳቆሙ ገልጸዋል፡፡

ቃለ-ምልልስ የተደረገለት የመንደሩ ኮስታራና ጎረምሳ ወጣት በበኩሉ፦<<  …በጣም ሀርደኛ ነው፤ እኔ ራሴ እፈራዋለሁ። ፈጽሞ አይመቸኝም>> ሲል በምሬት መልክ ተናግሯል።

የመደዴ ሰፈሩ ዶሮ “ኩኩሉ ሲል ደስ ይላል፤ በጧት ይቀሰቅሰናል ተብሎ ለሰዓት ነጋሪነት እንዲሰነብት ቢደረግም ሳይታሰብ የ የአውሬነት ባህሪይ ማምጣቱ ያስገረማቸው የሰፈሩ ነዋሪዎች፤ <<ምን ታሪክ ነው?>> ሲሉ አግራሞታቸውን ገልጸዋል።

በዶሮው ከፍተኛ ጥቃት ከደረሰባቸው በርካታ ሰዎች መካከል፤ ሴት ሰናይት የተባለች የአካባቢው ነዋሪ አንዷ ነች።

ሁሉም  የደረሰባቸውን ጥቃት አሜን ብለው በቁጭትና በዝምታ ሲመለከቱት፤ሰናይት ግን <፣መብቴ በጉልበተኛ ሲገሰስ በዝምታ አላይም>> በማለት ፍርድ ቤት ገትራዋለች።

A Time to Heal, A Time to Reconcile

Last week, The Reporter reported:

An ethnic-based conflict between Addis Ababa University (AAU) students following derogatory graffiti posted on toilet-walls and library walls has left half a dozen students with severe injuries while others had faced arrest. For decades, the clash between students at universities has witnessed many ethnic-based conflicts which many observers claim it to be the weakness of the administering body. Likewise, the Wednesday [January 2] conflict was particularly between those from the ethnic lines of Oromo and Tigre. Reports indicate that the conflict was instigated when member (sic) of the latter ethnic group scrawled derogatory remarks on the walls of toilets and the library and in his own dormitory as well.”

An official of Addis Ababa University alleged the “conflict was instigated by students who found derogatory statements posted on the wall”. Some 20 students were reportedly injured in the incident and three hospitalized including two who underwent surgery. Police reportedly arrested 20 students on unspecified charges.

My initial reaction reading this report about Ethiopia’s “best and brightest” was sheer disbelief.  “This just can’t be true. It is beneath the dignity of Ethiopia’s Cheetah Generation (young people) to engage in such a cowardly and dastardly act. Ethiopia’s university students know better than to wrestle in the filth and sewage of ethnic politics.” I kept on reassuring myself that such wicked hatemongering could not possibly  be the work of Ethiopia’s budding intellectuals, future scholars, scientists and literary men and women.
